Principal Advisor, Strategy & Finance Modernisation

About the role

Oyu Tolgoi, part of Rio Tinto, is looking for a Principal Advisor, Strategy & Finance Modernisation to join the Finance & Commercial Department in Ulaanbaatar. The role sits at the intersection of corporate strategy, economic analysis, shareholder engagement and business transformation, working closely with the CEO, CFO and executive leadership team. It is open only to Mongolian citizens.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development, refinement and execution of strategic priorities, turning them into themes, initiatives, performance measures and delivery plans, and monitor trends that affect competitiveness.
• Act as the strategic link between Finance Transformation and business objectives, prioritising and sequencing modernisation initiatives and supporting governance and oversight of major transformation programs.
• Analyse economic, policy, regulatory and industry developments, domestic and international trends in the mining sector, and build strategic assessments and outlooks.
• Support the CEO and CFO with strategic briefings, presentations and executive materials, and coordinate engagement with shareholders and joint venture stakeholders.
• Identify and assess strategic risks, lead scenario planning and alternative business outlooks, and support major investment decisions.
• Support organisational improvement, including simplifying processes, improving corporate reporting and strengthening planning, performance management and governance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Commerce, Strategy or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, economic analysis, business transformation or enterprise planning.
• Demonstrated experience supporting senior executive and board-level decision-making.
• Highly valued: postgraduate qualification (e.g. MBA, Master's in Economics, Finance, Public Policy or Strategy); mining, resources, infrastructure or large-scale capital-intensive industry experience; experience with shareholders, joint venture partners or government stakeholders; background in management consulting, corporate strategy or economic advisory roles; understanding of digital transformation, automation and organisational modernisation; experience in Mongolia or comparable emerging markets; finance, commercial or investment analysis experience.

• Exceptional written, presentation and communication skills, with strong English.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and build trusted relationships.
