Senior Manager Strategy

About the role

Oyu Tolgoi, which operates a copper-gold mine in southern Mongolia, is looking for a Senior Manager, Strategy who must be a Mongolian citizen. The role leads the company's strategic agenda and supports the executive leadership team in defining its future direction. It reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with the CEO, the Senior Leadership Team, the Board and shareholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead corporate strategy development: refine and communicate the strategic direction, turn aspirations into themes, priorities and roadmaps, and run executive planning and annual strategy reviews.
• Partner the CEO and Senior Leadership Team as a trusted advisor, supporting decisions with analysis and evidence-based recommendations.
• Turn strategy into executable initiatives, monitor progress and integrate it into business planning, performance management and governance.
• Integrate enterprise risk into strategy, develop scenarios and outlooks, and combine performance analysis, business intelligence and risk information.
• Analyse market trends, economic conditions, regulation and geopolitics, and assess opportunities and threats.
• Prepare Board, executive and shareholder strategy materials, engage shareholders and joint venture partners, and coordinate communication of priorities and performance.
• Build and lead the Strategy team, developing capability across strategy, risk, business analysis and performance reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Commerce, Engineering, Strategy, Public Policy or a related field.
• Significant experience leading corporate strategy, business planning, management consulting or enterprise transformation.
• Experience working directly with executive leadership teams and boards, and with large, complex organisations.
• Strong commercial, financial and business acumen; analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking.
• Excellent written, presentation and communication skills, and advanced English.
• Highly valued: MBA or postgraduate qualification, mining or capital-intensive industry experience, joint venture or shareholder governance experience, mining economics and corporate finance knowledge, and international or emerging-market experience.
