Commercial Director

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Director to lead SPAR Mongolia’s commercial strategy in Ulaanbaatar. The role will shape the brand’s market entry, drive profitability, and build a high‑performing commercial organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a commercial strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
• Lead category management, buying and merchandising across all product ranges.
• Design customer‑focused assortments, pricing and promotional plans to maximise sales and margin.
• Own commercial KPIs, gross margin, inventory performance and P&L results.
• Negotiate supplier agreements and maintain strategic partnerships.
• Conduct assortment reviews, SKU rationalisation and range optimisation.
• Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Finance and Marketing for seamless execution.
• Recruit, coach and develop a commercial team, including Category Managers.
• Implement international retail best practices and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Finance or related field (Master’s a plus).
• Minimum 5 years of senior commercial leadership in supermarket, grocery or retail chain operations.
• Proven hands‑on experience in category management, assortment, pricing and supplier management.
• Demonstrated ownership of commercial P&L with measurable results.
• Experience building or transforming commercial functions, preferably in greenfield or franchise projects.
• Strong leadership skills managing Category Managers and commercial teams.
