National Water Resources Management Specialist

About the role

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Mongolia is seeking a National Water Resources Management Specialist to support the Technical Cooperation Programme aimed at strengthening groundwater assessment and sustainable water management for food security. The specialist will work under the FAO Representative in Mongolia and coordinate closely with the FAO RAP Land and Water Officer and government counterparts.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate groundwater assessment, monitoring, and hydrogeological analysis activities.
• Develop and maintain GIS‑based water resources information systems.
• Produce technical recommendations, vulnerability maps, and community‑level water security analyses.
• Support capacity development for government and project stakeholders in groundwater management.
• Collaborate with FAO RAP Land and Water Office and national authorities to ensure evidence‑based planning.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in hydrogeology, water resources engineering, environmental science or a related field.
• Proven experience in groundwater assessment, monitoring, and data management.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi‑stakeholder environments and provide technical guidance.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
