Field Officer – Disaster Risk Reduction (Gobi‑Altai)

About the role

The Field Officer will lead Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Anticipatory Action (AA) and resilience‑building activities in the Gobi‑Altai region. Working closely with communities, schools and local authorities, the officer ensures high‑quality project implementation and strengthens preparedness for disasters and emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage province‑level operational plans, integrating targets, timelines, risk mitigation and budgets.
• Conduct Community Participatory Disaster Risk Assessments and support the creation or update of local disaster preparedness plans.
• Facilitate training on the “Be Ready” module, school safety frameworks and junior rescuer clubs for communities and partners.
• Coordinate Anticipatory Action interventions, procurement, logistics and distribution of project assets in line with donor and organizational requirements.
• Monitor community conditions, hazard events and project performance, producing timely reports and maintaining accountability mechanisms.
• Strengthen partnerships with local government, humanitarian actors and service providers to ensure sustainable DRR and resilience outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Risk Management, Climate Change Adaptation, Environmental Science, Development Studies, Project Management or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive project management experience, including humanitarian or DRR projects.
• Proven experience collaborating with government agencies and managing budgets, procurement and donor reporting.
• Intermediate or upper‑intermediate English proficiency.
• Willingness to travel frequently (30‑40 % of time) to remote, disaster‑prone areas of Mongolia.
